The Levelling

Director: Hope Dickson Leach

Stars: Ellie Kendrick, David Troughton, Joe Blakemore.

Ruined by the Somerset Levels floods in 2014, the future of a family farm is uncertain in this stunning debut feature by Hope Dickson Leach. Starring Ellie Kendrick (Game of Thrones) The Levelling follows a trainee vet’s return home after the mysterious death of her brother; confronting her estranged father and attempting to uncover the truth.  Shadowed by ill-remembered conflicts and unspoken regrets, the pair set out to heal their fractious yet still loving relationship. The Levelling is a starkly realistic recurring dream about land and roots and struggling to keep your head above water.

With a finely-crafted script, impressive performances and exceptional cinematography of the landscape by Nanu Segal, Dickson-Leach's slow-burning film portrays the vicissitudes of farming life with depth and realism, marking her as a new voice to watch in contemporary British cinema.

'The sensitivity of the performances, the attention to detail and economical storytelling all help to mark out Hope Dickson Leach as a talent to watch.' Screen International
