Phil Beer together with Sound of the Sirens in a Special Double Header event.
When given the opportunity to be together for this unique evening of music Phil, Abbe and Hannah leapt at the opportunity and they are all very much looking forward to it.
Phil is one half of folk supergroup Show Of Hands and is in much demand as a multi-instrumentalist and producer and has been described by the Guardian as 'where Steve Earle and Richard Thompson collide'. He was nominated for the coveted Musician of the Year title in the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. He is perhaps best known as a top-flight fiddler, but his skills don't stop there: he also plays slide, Spanish and tenor guitars, mandocello, viola, mandolin and South American cuatro, not to mention contributing his rich and remarkable vocals. All are songs and music of memory and significance, sung in the subtle and melodic Phil Beer style and interjected with musings and amusings to an almost personal audience.
Phil will open the show and comes to the Beehive as part of the 'So Much to Choose From' 2020 Tour. The solo shows for 2020 will be the last time Phil undertakes such a large number of performances and aim to encapsulate the last 40 years of his songs and music.
He will then be joined on stage by Sound of the Sirens and part of the show will be them making music together.
Sound Of The Sirens are Abbe Martin and Hannah Wood. They combine agile guitar-playing, soaring harmonies and lyrical, heartfelt songwriting to make lushly melodic music. They released the critically acclaimed album This Time in early 2019 on independent label DMF Records. In Spring 2020 they will be playing a number of headline shows before playing festivals throughout the Summer.
“’This Time’ is a collection of moments, emotions, challenges and stories,” say the duo. “We’ve collected lyrics, melodies and ideas from the past couple of years for this project. We created this album last winter in an isolated barn in Wales with only guitars, a piano, wine and the dogs for company. The themes of time, love, loss, perseverance, hope and clarity are intertwined in these songs.”
Abbe & Hannah are very much looking forward to working with Phil again:-
"We are so excited to be sharing the evening with Phil Beer. He is always so lovely to work with. We managed to share a stage at Exeter Respect a couple of years ago and then borrowed his skills at Cottingham Folk Festival. Fingers crossed we get to play a few songs with him again this time.
We can't wait x"
The last part of the evening will be Sound of the Sirens on their own.
Saturday 13 June 2020 performance has been rescheduled to Friday 26 February 2021. If you have pre-booked tickets, they will be valid for the new date.
