Gigspanner Big Band (24)

Gigspanner Big Band (24)
Gigspanner Big Band New Album Preview Tour

Ticket Prices: General Admission £27
All ticket prices include a £1 booking fee

The Gigspanner Big Band are a unique force in British folk music...

Their high-energy, virtuosic performances appeal equally to traditionalists and to those looking for something more experimental, and they have garnered praise from publications as varied as fRoots, The Telegraph and The Wire, where they were described as "melodically folk-rooted yet open and innovative beyond the constraints of genre"

Beginning life as a trio - with legendary Steeleye Span fiddle player Peter Knight being joined by percussionist Sacha Trochet and guitarist Roger Flack - the line-up has been expanded to form the Gigspanner Big Band, with acclaimed multi-instrumental duo Edgelarks (Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin - BBC Folk Awards 'Best Duo') and Bellowhead co-founder and melodeon player extraordinaire, John Spiers, joining the fray.

While Peter Knight, as part of Steeleye Span s classic 1970s line-up, helped invent a brand of folk rock that is still influential today, John Spiers, has had an equally profound impact on the landscape of traditional music over the last two decades.

Characterised by riotous inventiveness, technically gifted individual playing and subtle collaborative interaction, this coming together of several of the biggest names on the folk-roots scene, combines a deep knowledge of roots traditions with a ceaselessly boundary pushing approach.

Unsurprisingly, the superlatives have come thick and fast.

"Spectacular 5***** R2 Magazine

 "Utterly thrilling" Northern Soul

"Totally blown away by the spellbinding Gigspanner Big Band. Lost for words..." Folking. Com

Having spent much of the past two years touring alongside best-selling author Raynor Winn (The Salt Path) with their massively successful prose and music collaboration SALTLINES, the Gigspanner Big Band return to their six-piece format for a UK tour which sees them showcasing material from their new album, due for release in 2025

Budapest Cafe Orchestra

Budapest Cafe Orchestra

Budapest Cafe Orchestra

Ticket Prices: Adult £20

All ticket prices include a £1 booking fee

Christian Garrick & the Budapest Cafe Orchestra are:

CHRISTIAN GARRICK  violin, darbuka

EDDIE HESSION accordion

KELLY CANTLON  double bass

ADRIAN ZOLOTUHIN guitar, saz, balalaika, domra

In 2009 Christian Garrick established the refreshingly unconventional and snappily attired Budapest Cafe Orchestra.  The intention to present a broad range of music from all over the world in the most entertaining and fun way.  One of BCO's prime directives is to take the music seriously but not so much themselves.  Part of the secret formula of the BCO's show presentation is performing all the music from memory and, combined their trademark wit and charm, audiences leave tingling with warmth and delight.

BCO are one of the very busiest acoustic groups for me today playing an average of 60 to 70 shows per annum.  Since their inception they have recorded one album every year and in January 2023 made their 14th Pavane (& the whole shebang-bang).  BCO are frequent guests to BBC Radio 3's In Tune and on Martin's Handley's weekend Breakfast programmes.

Each member of the orchestra is a freelance musician in their own right.  Both Eddie and Adrian teach prolifically for budding school-age musicians. Christian is a professor of jazz violin at Guildhall School of Music, Royal Academy of Music, and Royal College of Music in London.

Adrian is curator and director of the Imperial Balalaika Orchestra of Overton (IBOO) who sometimes appear with BCO at special gala concerts.  Both Eddie and Christian are busy session recording the sessions and have each played on a multitude of movies.  Eddie even had an on-screen role in the Nick Cage film Captain Corelli's Mandolin!

From a musical family with jazz and classical learnings Christian Garrick is musical director of BCO and his influences run far and wide.  He first discovered Hungarian and Romanian folk and gypsy music listening to Sandor Lakatos and Taraf du Haidouks.  Christian's arrangements for BCO of Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and Greig - the so called squeezebox concertos - are rooted in BCO folklore.  His arrangements of traditional Gaelic tunes on the album The Gaelic Chronicles was met with critical acclaim with the likes of Cerys Matthews and Mark Radcliffe both championing the disc on their respective radio shows.  Christian is influenced by a range of fiddlers from Grappelli to Stuff Smith to Indian virtuosos L Shankar and L Subramaniam.  Nigel Kennedy, a sometimes collaborator with Christian on stage, described him as one of my favourite violinists.  Christian's own unique hybrid playing style, sheer emotional passion and extraordinary improvisational abilities thrills audiences everywhere.

SOUL TRADERS

Tickets: General Admission £14

All ticket prices include a £1 booking fee.

Please note that the seating plan that is shown is not how the room will be laid out on the night, and is just for ticketing purposes. Tables and chairs will be around the outside of the room.

The Soul Traders story was begun by Den Hegarty in 1999 when he put a band together specifically to play at the grand opening of his local village hall.

Twenty-five years and many reincarnations later the twelve-piece band continues to work and thrive under the mentoring and leadership of Den Hegarty.

Celebrating upbeat Soul and Funk classics from the sixties and seventies, the band?s close four-part harmonies, fearless brass and ruthless back line make for a dance night to challenge your very best boots.

The thing that binds the Soul Traders together is our mutual love of music. We have a very diverse repertoire, showcasing the breadth of diversity within our ranks. At the core of our catalogue, some of the finest northern soul there is to be had (as hinted at in the name). Thrown in alongside, a touch of funk and just a tad of good ol' fashioned bebop, blues and rock 'n' roll.

You can expect a mixture of superbly executed piano riffs, a heaped helping of pumping bass licks, ear tinglingly grooving percussion, some smooth strumming of the ol' six string and some of the finest trumpet blowing and driving saxophones there is to be had. Weave into this supreme musical mix a cornucopia of the most supremely talented singers there is to be seen for miles around, tying a grand virtuosic bow around the package that is The Soul Traders.

Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers

200 years after its opening and a century after acquiring its first Van Gogh works, the National Gallery, London is hosting the UK’s biggest ever Van Gogh exhibition. Van Gogh is not only one of the most beloved artists of all time, but perhaps the most misunderstood. This film is a chance to re-examine and better understand this iconic artist. Focusing on his unique creative process, Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers explores the artist’s years in the south of France, where he revolutionised his style. Van Gogh became consumed with a passion for storytelling in his art, turning the world around him into vibrant, idealised spaces and symbolic characters. Poets and lovers filled his imagination; everything he did in the south of France served this new obsession. In part, this is what caused his notorious breakdown, but it didn’t hold back his creativity as he created masterpiece after masterpiece. Explore one of art history's most pivotal periods in this once-in-a-century show

Christine Collister

Christine Collister

CHRISTINE COLLISTER

Ticket Prices: General Admission £17

All ticket prices include a £1 booking fee.

"..boundary breaking is routine for Collister and makes her one of the finest grown-up vocalists on the planet" Q

Touring for the first time in four years, Christine will be performing songs from the "Children of the Sea" project along with a selection of old favourites.

2024: Christine's career now spans an incredible 40 years.  Over that bridge of time she has released 24 albums, a DVD celebrating 20 years in the business and an acclaimed single with the BBC: the theme tune for "The Life and Loves of a She-Devil" in 1987.

Throughout, she has mesmerized and astounded with her unique blend of soul, blues, pop, jazz, country and folk, and today she remains as powerful, subtle, effortless and relevant as ever.

Collister grew up on the Isle of Man, and her professional recording career began after she moved to the UK in the mid 1980's, when she came to national attention singing the theme for the BBC Television series The Life and Loves Of A She Devil. A period of great critical and commercial success when working with Clive Gregson was followed by a fruitful and enduring association with Richard Thompson.

Christine is a magical live performer, with her gravity defying voice, assured and impressive live performances and great personal charm has become a familiar and popular name on the live scene including major international festivals from Glastonbury to Cambridge, Winnipeg to Port Fairey.

"a voice personally delivered by God." The Times

"Christine Collister has a killer voice. As full as Dusty Springfield or as blue as Alison Moyet" Froots

To be released in 2024 - Children Of The Sea is a very special project of 9 original songs inspired by Manx Folklore and a magical sense of place. Part funded by the Isle Of Man Arts Council, Culture Vannin and Fledgling Records, The CD is accompanied by a beautiful book complete with lyrics, inspirations and stories with original illustrations by Manx artists. It promises to be Collister's finest release and marks a turning point in her authentic artistic expression.

Christine has always enjoyed the collaborative process and has been an integral part of many and varied musical projects over the years. Her most recent collaboration with brilliant Australian guitarist Michael Fix has been a successful and delightful surprise for them both.  They released their second CD North&South in October of 2019 with a sell out tour of the UK followed by an equally successful tour of the Australian Festival scene in 2020.

"Christine Collister's singing was powerful and emotional, shifting effortlessly from soft and angelic to knock you out Janice Joplin style. Michael Fix's guitar was equally superb. He provided tasteful support in the most charming way and would then explode into amazing virtuoso runs across the finger board, all impeccably tasteful and clean."

Troubadour (Woy Woy NSW) concert review, Michael Fine

Christine's natural warmth and intimate connection with audiences coupled with her stunning voice, make her concerts delightfully memorable events.

One of the world's finest.. Q

Christine also toured and recorded with the female super group Daphne's

Flight. In 2017, 21 years after their first collaboration, they released a highly

acclaimed second album: "Knows Time, Knows Change" on Fledgling Records.

Taking him in, they discover that he is Andrea, a violinist from Krakow, Poland, who had been swept off an ocean liner on which he was sailing to a fresh start in America. Although Ursula feels an unfamiliar spark of infatuation for the handsome young musician, propriety suggests the attraction must remain unspoken.

Donations will also be made to tonight's choir and band.

Join us for a fabulous night of Christmas Songs and Festive Music, ending with much loved Christmas Carols for all to sing along to!

Lympstone Military Wives Choir
The Military Wives Choirs is a community of over 2000 women in 72 choirs across the UK and internationally. We come together to celebrate a love of singing and a communal understanding that comes from our members' shared experiences of the Armed Forces.

We welcome all women whose lives are currently impacted by their military connection; our network supports each other and forms life-changing friendships that lead to new and uplifting experiences through singing.

Singing in a choir has been proven to increase wellbeing and improve mental and physical health. With no auditions and no pressure to perform, the Military Wives Choirs gives its members the opportunity to spend time with women that truly understand the challenges associated with military life.

Lympstone MWC was formed in 2011, one of the first choirs to come together after the Gareth Malone TV series. We currently have around 20 members and rehearse on Wednesdays 5.30-7.30 pm in the Gordon Messenger Centre, opposite CTCRM’s main gate.

We welcome new members at any time.   Contact us at lympstone@militarywiveschoirs.org if you are interested in joining us or booking the choir for an event.

Ottery St Mary Silver Band
The Ottery St Mary Silver Band was formed in 1920 after a decision was made to move away from the previous set up of a military style concert band including reed instruments as well as brass. This had been the case for many years leading up to the First World War.  Instead, the newly formed band used brass instruments only.  They initially called themselves the Town Band but like many bands in the South of England they later referred to themselves as a Silver Band rather than be likened to the colliery bands of the North.

Today's band has a mixture of brass and silver plated instruments  In 2023 the OSM Silver Band celebrated its centenary with a well attended and very successful concert at the Kings School in Ottery. This had originally been scheduled for 2020 but was cancelled due to COVID.

Although the the traditional brass band contest is not something OSMSB gets involved in these days, it does nonetheless have a busy schedule of engagements during the year including spring and Christmas concert, fetes, church services and carol playing, to to mention the Honiton show and regular summer engagements at Connaught Gardens in Sidmouth.

We offer brass class training and main rehearsals are held between 7.30 and 9.30 every Thursday at Escot Village Hall.

(Since their first get together, to record the eponymous St Agnes Fountain album in 2001, the quartet; David Hughes, Fairport Convention's Chris Leslie and multi award winning duo Chris While and Julie Matthews, have brought musical invention and laughter to the star-dust atmosphere of the season.

In 2020, David decided to leave the band and very sadly passed away in 2023, he will be sorely missed...

Chris, Chris and Julie will be keeping the Christmas Aggie spirit alive and working as a trio celebrating 22 years together again this year.

This year brings a new 'live' album from the trio, recorded all across the country in 2023 and will be ready for pre-release sales in November.

Although the albums accompany the putting up of a thousand Christmas trees throughout Britain and around the globe as their reputation reaches further afield, it is, without question, their magical live performances that have endeared them to an ever-growing audience (tickets were again being sold for this year's tour as the curtain fell last year).

Christmas, as they say, starts with...... St Agnes Fountain... Fa la la la la la la la la!

Chris, Chris and Julie intend to do just that, keeping the Christmas Aggie spirit alive and touring as a trio celebrating 23 years together with some new material, those old Aggie classics and a doff of the fedora to David.

Four women: four curious love stories. Juan Diego Flórez leads a fantastic cast in Offenbach's dream-

like opera.

Through the haze of the years, a poet remembers the women he loved. But when it comes to

matters of the heart, nothing is as it seems. Particularly when the devil himself is involved…

Journeying back to his school days, Hoffmann relives his childhood romance with Olympia, a model

student in every sense. Doomed love follows him into adulthood, where the dancer, Antonia, is

taken from him too soon. Meanwhile, the sensual courtesan Giulietta has her own secret agenda. As

memory and fantasy becomes increasingly blurred, will Hoffmann find the enigmatic Stella before it is too late?

Crackling Jack - The Rockface Tour

Crackling Jack - The Rockface Tour
Crackling Jacks - The Rockface Tour
Running time: 3 hours including the interval
Tickets Prices: General Admission £15
All ticket prices include a £2 booking fee.

Crackling Jack is a progressive rock band with its roots in the blues, playing a diverse range of music from bands from the 1970s and 1980s, such as Cream, Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Walter Trout, early Journey, Free, Robin Trower, Joe Walsh (of the Eagles), Buddaheads (a roaring blues band), Gary Moore, Santana.

CJ is a three-piece group – guitar/vocals, bass, drums – with all instruments to the fore, and with the freedom that that allows for extended improvisation and dynamic interaction. The blues we play are on the heavier side, modern and a little way from more traditional tropes in that genre. The band also writes its own numbers, which rock the blues and touch upon the contemporary world, dealing with public and personal themes such as war, loneliness and mental illness.

We adopt the longer progressive format, favouring fiery and mellow riffs that can be developed and extended with high-flying motifs allowing the guitar to soar, the bass to growl and the drums to dream and dispense thunder. We are inspired by the groups referred to above which have produced so much great music that has accompanied our lives.

The band has been busy in the studio recently, recording  an EP of four original numbers which will be available shortly in August 2024. The titles are: Down to the Bottom (drug addiction); River of Fear (personal relationship); If Tomorrow Comes (dedicated to the fighters of Ukraine); Black Sunday (an extended reverie about the dust bowl in the United States in the 1930s). We will continue to add further numbers in the next few months and aim to release a full album by the end of 2024.

We will also continue to cover the numbers that we love and enjoy playing; we hope you will enjoy hearing them too. Dave Sweetenham, bass & vocals, is a session player extraordinaire for well-known, signed professional musicians. He has the warmest, most resonant bass you ever heard. He also writes original jazz-fusion music and film scores, which involves his appearing at the Cannes Film Festival. He has an impressive collection of guitars. He also plays sessions for one of the singers in Britain’s Got Talent.

Sean Quinn, drums & vocals, is a multi-faceted music teacher with a very wide knowledge of music of all kinds, who teaches a variety of instruments, including guitar, drums and bass. A natural talent, he did not let his early lack of an acoustic drum kit deter him and found all kinds of items to deal a blow to. As a teacher, he has a particular talent for imparting his deep understanding and passion for music. His compendium of influences includes punk, early Pink Floyd and a miscellaneous variety of less well-known rock and blues. Mark Hobbs, guitar & vocals, like so many guitarists, was turned on to guitar by that early Eric Clapton Bluesbreakers Marshall sound. He has played in a variety of classic rock and blues bands.

Reg Meuross: Fire & Dust, A Woody Guthrie Story

Reg Meuross: Fire & Dust, A Woody Guthrie Story
Running time: 2 Hours

Ticket Prices: Early Bird £18. Advanced £22. On the Door £24
All tickets include a £2 booking fee

Commissioned by Pete Townshend and created by Reg Meuross, Fire & Dust – The Woody Guthrie Story is a journey into the heart and soul of one of America’s finest folk musicians.

Seeded by Townshend in 2019, this new work shows how the impact of Guthrie remains and how Meuross was the right man to tell this story through music and song. When Townshend called Reg to suggest the idea he saw how the project would “draw a direct line from Woody, through Bob Dylan, to Reg Meuross” and pledged his full support to realize this vision both as a studio album (which he co-produced and played on) and a series of live tours across the UK and beyond.

The breadth and depth of Reg Meuross’s material is unparalleled in contemporary folk: songs about forgotten heroes, famous names, folk legends, the climate emergency, tales from the kitchen sink and news from the world stage. If something needs to be sung about then Reg Meuross has a song for it and with Fire & Dust another important chapter of impeccably researched story-telling has begun.

Highlighting racism, bigotry, corruption and inequality this incredible new song-cycle is focused on the life and times of the ‘Dust Bowl’ American folk musician and political activist Woody Guthrie – whose work remains so influential today. Drawing important parallels between Guthrie’s time and our own, each song shows Meuross at his absolute best – sharing stories from social history that are still highly relevant today.

Joined by Welsh pianist and accordionist Geraint Watkins (Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney, Status Quo, Bill Wyman, Peter Green to name but a few) as well as renowned string player Marion Fleetwood (TRADarrr, IOTA, The Sandy Denny Project and Fleetwood Cave) the album is scheduled for release March 2025.

In addition to the incredible line-up on the album and tours, Who legend Townshend not only co-produced the album but also features on two of the album tracks and will be appearing at the full band launch gig in the spring.

“Reg Meuross is a purist…he sings in the neutral accent of an Englishman who travels the entirety of the British Isles, and tastes all its flavours, influenced by all its most profound national colours. In this he reminds one of Roy Harper or Ewan McColl, recent greats who went before him.” Pete Townshend

The Dawn of Impressionism: Paris, 1874
Directed by Ali Ray
Produced by Phil Grabsky
Running Time: 1 Hour 40 Minutes

Tickets: General Admission £13
All tickets include a £1 booking fee

The Impressionists are the most popular group in art history - millions flock every year to marvel at their masterpieces. But, to begin with, they were scorned, penniless outsiders. 1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists, “hungry for independence”, broke the mould by holding their own exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born and the art world was changed forever.

What led to that first ground breaking show 150 years ago? Who were the maverick personalities that wielded their brushes in such a radical and provocative way? The spectacular Musée d’Orsay exhibition brings fresh eyes to this extraordinary tale of passion and rebellion. The story is told not by historians and curators but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists, press and people of Paris, 1874. See the show that changed everything on the big screen.

Made in close collaboration with the Musee d’Orsay and National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.

The Secret Life of Enid Blyton

The Secret Life of Enid Blyton
On a Role Theatre Company Presents the Secret Life of Enid Blyton
Starring Liz Grand as Enid Blyton
Written by Kit Hunter
Running Time: 1 hour 45 minutes (Including interval)
Tickets Prices: General Admission £17
All ticket prices include a £2 booking fee.

Virtually everybody of a certain age has read an Enid Blyton book. She was loved by children (except her younger daughter who hated her) but vilified by the BBC, teachers, critics and librarians.

She sold more than 600 million books, despite all her work being banned by the BBC and many libraries and schools for more than thirty years. She was accused of being a racist and of using such limited vocabulary that it actually hindered children's reading progress.

Her love-life was interesting and she had numerous affairs including with her children's nanny. She enjoyed playing golf so much that she bought a golf course near Swanage.

She died of Alzheimer's in 1968 aged 71, mourned by millions of readers all over the world.

Liz Grand (previous shows "The Second Best Bed", "Where Is Mrs. Christie?" and "Mrs. Churchill: My life With Winston") plays this remarkable and controversial woman and brings you her story.

"The show's subject is brilliantly played by Liz Grand, already well-versed in portraying strong independent women, appearing in other solo productions "Where is Mrs Christie?", "Mrs Churchill - My Life With Winston" and "The Second Best Bed". ***** View From The Stalls 8/23

"This production evokes in the audience considerable admiration for the phenomenal output and achievements of Enid's writing career, some sympathy for her harsh and snobbish treatment by her critics, some respect for her charitable work and the positive morality in her stories, though little warmth for her as a person. 'Behind the Arras ' 8/23

Running Time: 2hrs 15

Tickets: Advanced: £15. General Admission £19

Adam Sweet delivers brooding blues and rootsy rock, balancing richly detailed song writing with soulful vocals and expertly piercing guitar work. Taking his cue from the British blues boom sounds and rock riffs of the 60s and 70s, the independent blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter has carved out his own territory between classic rock, blues and Americana.

Since first taking to the live scene in the South West of England at the age of 15 he has worked in various guises: solo acoustic, session player and with his own bands. The result is a consummate ability to switch from sensitive singer-songwriter to full-on blues rocker with ease, as demonstrated in his countless live performances and his output as a recording artist.

Since being crowned Introducing Stage winners at The Great British Rock and Blues Festival in 2023 the Adam Sweet Band have been rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the tightest units on the circuit. They have built on their success with triumphant performances at venues and festivals across the UK including London’s 100 Club, the Brudenell Social Club, Sidmouth & Rye International Jazz & Blues Festivals, Upton Blues Festival and they have supported the likes of Wishbone Ash, Kris Barras Band and Elles Bailey.

In 2024 they released ‘Live at Crescent Records’ with the accompanying YouTube series clocking up over 80k views in the first few months of its release. Adam is currently writing and recording the follow up to his acclaimed 2020 album release ‘Sink or Swim’.

The Unravelling Wilburys
Ticket Prices: General Admission £19.50
All ticket prices include a £2 booking fee.

Now hear this y'all: Legend has it the original Wilbury brothers from Nashville, Tennessee, were plying their trade as a good ol' Country band one night in Tootsie's Bar, when who should walk in but George Harrison from The Beatles and his old pal JeD Lynne outta the ELO. After a few beers, George and JeD decided they loved the Wilbury boys and called up some of their friends, inviting them downtown to hear for themselves. Those friends turned out to be Roy Orbison, that Tom Petty out of the Heartbreakers, and Bobby Dylan himself.

The story goes that, after the show, the famous five wanted to hang out with the shy and retiring Unravelling Wilburys. They all got pretty drunk, and it seemed like the Wilbury brothers had got their big break when Tom Petty allegedly said they should all work together.

Six months went by and the Wilburys heard nothing. Then one day they was passing a record store and heard one of their own songs playing on the hi- fi. "Who's this playing our song?" they said to the guy behind the counter. "Why, it's a new supergroup," the guy replied. "They call themselves The Traveling Wilburys".

"Yes folks, it seems the Traveling Wilburys became a tribute band to our home-spun originals.

Well, a few years and more passed and finally the Unravelling Wilburys decided to "reclaim" those songs, putting together a set of all the hits and the best stuD Dylan, Petty, Orbison, Lynne and Harrison could muster between 'em. Then they headed for the UK. The folks there ain't got much of a clue about Country music and took to 'em straight away.

Pretty soon they was travelling all over the country, from the Orkney Islands to the Isle of Wight; from Penzance to Perth; from Southwold to South Wales; packing out theatres along the way in towns whose names they'd never heard of and couldn't pronounce.

The show features the best of the Wilbury albums (?Handle with Care?; ?The End of the Line?; ?The Devil?s Been Busy?; ?Tweeter & The Monkey Man? etc.) and some of their supposedly thievin? counterparts? numbers like ?Only the Lonely?; Won?t Back Down?; ?While my Guitar Gently Weeps?; ?Like a Rollin? Stone? and ?Mr. Blue Sky?. The act even contains the kind of comedy only a band spending too many nights in Travelodge hotels could dream up.

The Unravelling Wilburys are now so popular they even got to be a question on that TV show ?The Chase?. Now that?s fame?even if it ain?t fortune. So- Ladies and Gentlemen, turn oD your hearing aid,, put your Zimmer frame to one side and prepare for a musical journey with Walter, Blind Melon, Sticky Willy, Thumper and the Reverend Honky Tonk Wilbury. It?s a journey you ain?t gonna forget in a hurry.!

Johnny Cash Revisited is a two-hour, live concert performance set between 1969 and 1971 and based on the hugely popular “Johnny Cash Show” Television series. During this period, Cash was at the height of his career in the USA and around the world, following the success of his legendary, At Folsom Prison and San Quentin albums.

The show features flashbacks to the very beginning of Cash’s career at Sun Records in Memphis and includes his greatest hits from the 1950’s on through the decades with hits such as, Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, Big River, Ring of Fire, A Boy Named Sue, One Piece At A Time, Daddy Sang Bass, A Thing Called Love, Ghost Riders In The Sky, Without Love, and duets, Jackson and It Ain’t Me Babe, with June Carter, a legend in her own right and member of the pioneering “Carter Family”.

The show boasts a fabulous live band called Starkville who, in their own right, could entertain you for the entire two hours. They perform popular songs by artists to whom Cash himself gave a prime-time

TV spot, and in some cases their biggest break, as guests on his TV show. Hit songs by Derek andThe Dominoes, and Credence Clearwater Revival, feature alongside Johnny’s long-time friends and Sun Records label mates, Roy Orbison and Carl Perkins.

Our show also provides a look at the resurgence of Johnny Cash’s career in the 1990’s featuring his Grammy award winning series of six American Recordings albums, including 2003’s incredibly powerful, Hurt. In short, Johnny Cash Revisited is a musical journey through five decades of hits by the legendary “Man In Black” himself, with his wife, June Carter, The Tennessee Three, and their friends, that we’re are sure will bring back wonderful feelings of nostalgia to those who lived through those years, while introducing a whole new generation to the wonderful country, rock ‘n’ roll, and rockabilly music of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and into the new millennium!

Sensuous contemporary ballet meets the energy of musical theatre in four distinctive short works.

Fool’s Paradise, The Two of Us, Us, An American in Paris: four works showing the remarkable

choreographic range of The Royal Ballet's Artistic Associate, Christopher Wheeldon.

FOOL’S PARADISE

Luminescent and shimmering, Fool’s Paradise marked the first of Wheeldon’s many collaborations

with composer Joby Talbot. It was created in 2007 for Wheeldon’s own company, Morphoses, and

first performed in 2012 by The Royal Ballet.

THE TWO OF US

The wistful songs of Joni Mitchell set the scene for the UK premiere of The Two of Us, a duet of deep

intimacy and yearning. It was created in 2020 for the Fall for Dance Festival in New York, and had

American ballet dancers Sarah Mearns and David Hallberg in its original cast.

US (DUET)

Us is a tender duet danced by two men. It was created in 2017 for BalletBoyz and is set to Keaten

Henson’s music.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (BALLET)

The Royal Ballet celebrates Wheeldon’s extraordinary success in musical theatre by performing the

ballet scene from his Tony Award-winning musical An American in Paris. Set to Gershwin’s jazzy

melodies, the musical is inspired by the 1951 film of the same name starring Gene Kelly and Leslie

Caron. The musical went on to win four Tony awards. The full musical depicts a blossoming romance

between the American G.I. Jerry Mulligan and a French ballerina, Lise Dassin. The ballet excerpt was

Wheeldon’s take on one of the most memorable scenes from the film – an extended sequence in

which the two central characters dance through Paris.

Michelangelo - Love & Death
Directed by David Bickerstaff
Produced by Phil Grabsky
Running Time: 1 Hour 41 MInutes

The spectacular sculptures and paintings of Michelangelo seem so familiar to us, but what do we really know about this Renaissance giant? Michelangelo’s genius is evident in everything he touched. Beautiful and diverse works such as the towering statue of David, the moving Pietà in the Papal Basilica of St. Peter and his tour-de-force, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, still leave us breathless today.

Spanning his 88 years, Michelangelo - Love and Death takes a cinematic journey through the print and drawing rooms of Europe through the great chapels and museums of Florence, Rome and the Vatican to seek out a deeper understanding of this legendary figure’s tempestuous life, his relationship with his contemporaries and his incredible legacy.

Through expert commentary, stunning visuals and Michelangelo’s own words, this film takes a fresh look at a master artist whose life and genius are celebrated in every mark he made. Returning to cinemas in 2025 to celebrate this iconic artist’s 550th birthday.

Sculptor, painter, architect, poet, genius - discover why Michelangelo is without a doubt one of the greatest artists of all time.
